Ostriches are raised for their eggs (fertilised), their meat or for leather production. Always provide a shelter to protect the bird against adverse weather conditions. Non-flying birds can be kept in pairs, trios or even in a colony.
The eggs are usually professionally and artificially incubated. Our climate is not ideal for ostriches to hatch their own eggs through natural incubation; the chance of failure is higher with natural incubation. Naturally, when the hen walks around with her young, it is a beautiful sight.
